About Me

Dr Joanna Thornborough.

I completed my PhD at the University of St Andrews in 2015 with a thesis entitled ‘The Passiones of St. Kilian: Cult, Politics and Society in the Carolingian and Ottonian Worlds’.

The subject of this thesis was the relationship between hagiography and cult in the early medieval West, taken through the example of the passiones of St Kilian of Würzburg in the period from c. 700 – c. 1000 A.D.

I have a broad interest in early medieval saints’ cults and hagiographical texts.
